Mr.Kolby
Sir
It affords me no little satisfaction, that I can inform you, that, by the 26th day of this month I can oppen the colored school in my District, the house is nearly finished and Mr. Stuart told me a few days ago he had engaged a teacher for me who will arrive from Little Rock with the first boat what comes up, the house will be 26 by 22 feet (hewed logs) I have been to their meeting this day and they told me they would finish the house before next Saturday.
Now sir if it is in your power to do any thing for them I know you are willing to do so we needed a black board, a writing desk and several other articles, what little money they made up was nearly all spent for the flooring plank. Tomorrow I oppen a school for the white children and by tomorrow week I will have an other one in operation for the same class. The reason I writ to you so soon is this: I heard you and Mr. Smith are going to New Jersey before long and I taught best to inform you before you go. I remain your obedient servant
