Sir.

J.E. Hart Esq. deposes and say's that he whipped a child for disobedience of orders on his place. Age of the child, 13 or 14 years of age. He acknowledges the act; but was obliged to do it, upon it the hands upon the plantation offered resistance, and upon a personal assault being made upon Mr J. E. Hart, he knocked one or two men down. From all appearances the hands have refused to work, and create a great deal of disturbances in the neighborhood (Holly Hill)
