My dear Mr. Gallatin:
You no doubt remember the great exhibition of Picasso's works of the Blue and Rose Periods which was held here in our galleries last season, and the great success that attended it.
We have planned for this coming season as the opening exhibition and as a close follow-up to last year's exhibition, another great Picasso show representing twenty years in the evolution of Picasso, to include only two or three picture of the early period and the rest negro pictures, cubist and monumental pictures from 1920 to 1923.
We have acquired a very important group by this master which was never before seen in this country, and we hope only to exhibit works of primary and monumental importance.
In this connection, I have just been requested by our Paris office to ask if you would consider the loan of "The Musicians" which you acquired last year. This picture, representing a landmark in the artist's work, would be an outstanding addition to the exhibition, and I hope very much that we may be able to count on your generosity and cooperation in this regard.
For your information the exhibition will last from November 1st to November 20th.
As soon as I receive a definite confirmation from you regarding the loan of this picture, I will send you details regarding insurance, calling for and delivering the picture, etc., etc.
Hoping that we may hear from you favorably about the above matter, and with our sincerest thanks in advance for your cooperation,
Please believe me to be
Yours very sincerely,
