Dear Mrs. Garreau-Dombasle:

General Policy: Following the conversation I had the privilege of having with you, Mrs. Boker and Mrs. Carson, I have further studied the proposition we discussed, of holding an art exhibition for the benefit of French organisations. You will recall that I suggested - and it seems to me that it was also your and your committee's view - that it would be preferable, from the angles of French prestige and results to be obtained, to have one very important exhibition rather than a series of smaller ones.

It is along these lines that I have been working on an extremley ambitious program, which - if it meets with your approval and that of all the committees, and if we succeed in putting it afoot - would, in my mind be one of the most impressive exhibitions of French art of the 19th. Century ever held in this country. It would consist of roughly forty or fifty paintings of that period, which either have never been shown here (in public exhibitions, at least) - or certainly not within the last fifteen years. This you realise should be an added attraction.

PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED: Here this general program accepted, I would count upon you to bring together the different committees which are interested and are to participate. I trust our Ambassader would be Honorary President and further that an Executive Committee, representative of this various organisations, would be formed - it being ins task to cooperate with me and my firm in ths working out of details naturally entailed. Also, I would need the good-will and efforts of a great many of the members of the different groups, to obtain some of the paintings which we have selected, and to endeavor to have their owners carry the insurance.

FINANCES: The very sketchy preliminary study of this and, shows that the expenses encountered -
Establishing and printing of the catalogue Printing and sending out of the invitations
A certain amount of advertising
Extra Guards
Transportation
Insurance - should we be obliged to insure all of the pictures (at our valuation)
