Stoughton October 8th 1939

Dear Doris

We are having a warm pleasant Sunday. I have just been taking my weekend bath & before dinner will begin my letter, she has gone to church, she will sing in the choir. Mrs Tirrell sent me up a big bag of tomatoes Friday night when she went to choir rehearsal, fresh picked they raise them on their farm, she is sister to Reubin Willis wife & Lester Gays wife also.

Hazel Drake was over yesterday afternoon to pay her rent, & she wanted me to tell you how thankful she felt, for having the chimney fixed, for it was a good relief to their minds as the bricks had fallen close to the roof, it was pretty well perferated clear throu & her father said (he sat in the barn door all through watching) that the minute the man touched the chimney, the top fell & nearly nocked the man off the roof, it was a miracle what saved him. he took the whole thing down clear below the roof & washed every brick, he had a pail of water there for that purpose. & Drake said he never saw that done
