Stoughton September 14th 1939

Dear Doris

We are having fall weather now our coal fire in the kitchen stove seems essential, frosts will come soon enough now I suppose. perhaps now you are having it cooler down there. schools are taking the children off the streets. cattle show is going on this week but they are not having their full attendance so far I hear it may be on account of the NY fair being so much larger that this small one seems insignificant. however every one seems to think they must go, even if it takes their last dollar. they are tiresome things even so. 

I wonder if you have found out any thing you left here the only thing I have found is a couple of sleeve buttons I came across in the cup on our shelf that Sidney must have forgotten. a book has come here by Parcel Post in care of Lucy Holmes which I dont see any other way than to direct it back to you in Virgina. also your check which I am sending back to day. I have missed you much since you rode home Thursday morning and feel sorry you worked so hard all through your
