An inquisition indented taken at Mr J. S. Cunningham's the state & District aforesaid the 13th day of July A.D. 1866 before J.H. Watson Coroner upon the view of the body of a Freedwomen Sue formerly belonging to J.S. Cunningham Marian District then and there being dead by the oaths of D.R. Harlen S. Lucas Dr. J.F. Pearce Calvin Lemmons Wm T. Gregg James Campbell H. Thomas A.W. Boss R.A. Watson M.R. Sturgess Ed D. Berry Wm Myers J.G. Gregg Ed Hazelden Being a lawful jury of inquest who being charged and sworn to enquire for the state of South Carolina Where and by what means the said freedwoman Sue came to her death upon their oaths do say that they examined the dead body of the above named Freedwoman Sue. Appearance of body: A pistol shot was observed penetrating the left side of the chest about two inches below the clavicle which wound in the opinion of the jury caused her death. Two flesh wounds were also observed one just above the left eye and one on the left fore arm which appeared to be the effect of a blow or blows from a stick. The above named freedwoman came to her death on the 11th day of July Eighteen hundred & Sixty six by the discharge of a Pistol in the hands of William Cade. And so the jurors aforesaid upon their oaths aforesaid do say
