In reply to communication of 27th ult. I have the honor to report that there is one small primary school for Freedmen's children in my District - Washington County - rented from the teacher Martha Wartrous for $15 - per mo - but no lease will be given - It was hired Apr. 1. 1867 - and no repairs or other expense has been charged to the Bureau - 

There are no other schools for Freedmen known to the Sub Asst. Com. in this county - The teacher of the abovementioned school is a colored woman
