Your communication was received last night asking what had been done by the Freed people towards Building them a School house well we have the timber cut and shall try to get the frame up next week But the freedmen are So poor And the prospects of a cotton crop So bad that they cannot help but very little and that will be by their work When you told me that you could not help us but one hundred dollars in currency we thought that we could not build it in that way. So we concluded to build the house that we would get a School Started as soon as
