Sir
My School in the vicinity of Woodlands will be ready to receive its teachers by the 20th Two will be required as some (60) Sixty Scholars will be in attendance & none have been taught even the Alphabet. Female Teachers would I think be best if boarding places could be secured, but that is impossible on account of the strong prejudice existing against educating the Freedman & Male teachers will have to depend some little time upon their own resources, & the Freedmen: as the only [[Office?]] in or near there is at Cotton Gin 5 miles from the School. I am obliged to "Squat" one School House that is in course of erection near Cotton Gin. The Planters are determined not to sell
