There are other plans where schools could be established if I was able to remain until they were in operation.

Outside the limits of the towns school lots can be had free, and considerable assistance from the planters in the state of Texas, use of saw mill, &c.

I may safely say that four more teachers (males) will be needed in this county next fall, but let them be practical men for any others would be worse than useless. They are needed here - the majority of the inhabitants are blacks, and not one of them is able to write more than their own name.

The teacher in Brazoria is anxious to establish Sunday school but is unable to do so for want of books. Forty or fifty good testaments would be put to good use if you could spare them. 

I am at a loss for a horse. If the government would allow me forage, or commutation for the same. I could get a horse for his feed which, under the present circumstances, would be considerable assistance to me. Without some such mode of conveyance I see no way of performing my duties except in the office.
