Sometimes since I wrote you in regard to furnishing if possible a teacher and books for a Freedman's School at this place. since which time I have been visiting several points in this county and have learned somewhat, the views of the people in regard to the educational interest of the Freedmen.

The masses are decidedly opposed to any movement of the kind: the old argument of negro equality.
