Office Sub. Asst. Com.
Bureau R.F. & A.L.
Austin, Texas, 22th June 1867.

Lieut. J. T. Kirkman,
A.A. Adjt. Genl. & Superintendent of Schools,
Bureau R.F. & A.L.
Galveston, Texas.

Lieut.

I have the honor to transmit herewith, the application of Miss Fannie Campbell for a leave of absence. She has labored faithfully & unremittingly, until her health requires relaxation and change of air.

I would respectfully recommend that her application be granted.

Unless the school is to be closed, it will be indispensable that another teacher be sent here, not only to take the place of Miss Campbell during her absence, but to remain after she returns. The schools are filling up rapidly and I have no doubt there will be work enough for four by the 1st of Sept.

Are the schools to have a vacation this summer? If so, how long? The white schools here, have a vacation of two months, but I do not think it advisable to have one so long for the freedmen's schools. Probably the freedpeople themselves, would prefer to have none.

I am, very respectfully
Your obt. servt.
