My dear Mrs. Haughton:

Thank you ever so much for having so promptly answered the inquiry I made on behalf of one of my clients. I am of course, disappointed to hear that the Corot "City on the Hill" is no longer available, and may I therefore take the liberty of asking whether you have other paintings which you might consider parting with?

The two Corots - "City on the Hill" and "Honfleur, Fishing Smack", which was also your's, were particularly well known to me, whereas you may have paintings by COROT or other artists which might interest me equally.

I hope you will not mind my writing you in this respect, and trust that I may look forward to an answer from you.

                  Yours very sincerely,

                  (Germain Seligmann)
