Paris, July 15th 1938

Dear Mrs Holmes,

How charming it was to receive this morning you good lines of July 7th., and to hear that you had had such a delightful holiday in South America, and in Honolulu.

I feel, however, a little depressed to know that the good time you have had this Spring, will prevent my seeing you in France this Summer, but we will have to make up for this in the Autumn.

I trust that by now you have heard of the great success of the Mortimer Schiff auction. When one takes into consideration the present political and economic conditions, one should come to the conclusion that it certainly sold very well, even beyond my personal expectations. You know that the great Roger van der Weyden painting brought 75.000 $, and was purchased right her in Europe.

Paris is extremely gay, and is all beflagged, awaiting the English Sovereigns. A great many parties are planned, and it is years since I have seen as many people, and nice people for that, in Hotels and restaurants, and it is really too bad that you should not be here!

With my best wishes for a most pleasant Summer, and thanking you again for your good lines, with personal regards, I am,

Yours most sincerely,

(Germain Seligmann)

Mrs. C.R. Holmes.
