I hope Gladys gets over her infection & it doesn't come again. She is well liked by everyone a good girl, like all of Charles children & not spoilt by their bringing up. Mrs Barry has just left for church she is dressed warm for fear the church will be cold. I am writing my letter in the upstairs front chamber in the sun is the warmest room in the house. my room the window is so frosty you cant see out. I hope it warms up soon.
They say that Stoughton is the safest place to live, as its away from water & no factories, where they make any war materials. People are coming here to live from Brockton they say as that seems to be dangerous city to live in. I wish this war would cease no one knows how it will end. its liable to go on for years. I am glad to be old & not afraid to die but would prefer to end my days in a natural way. The post man is coming around now today they are working Sundays. did you ever? well wish they had this letter to take with them. they may come again today. Little Doris seems to be working hard for her xmas presents hope she is well remembered this year guess she will be. Mabel was remembered by many. Mrs Barry spoke a good word for her & trusted her well. spoilt her too much attention.  Ma
