it yesterday. its a layer cake with candies saying happy birthday & with six little candles on it. then my present is a chain that used to be Sues. I never wore it (violet). she gives her some silk stockings they will have an ice cream probably. The wind blows it is cold I have just hung out some clothes to dry. I hope the cat has got over her fright. it seemed to be very interesting. she got well paid for her going out that time. I hope you get rain. it seems awful not to have water to use. a fire would be dreadful at such a time. when rain does come it will be heavy.

Dear Doris

After roasting for three days, the thunder storms around us & down pours brought us a complete change in temperature. no wonder people are sick & hospitals are full of people & no room for any more.

They took Careta to the Mass general & operated on her yesterday they found her with a ruptured gall bag & 7 large gall stones. she was a terrible sufferer. the head
