Maj Neid

Sir I thought proper to address you with a few lines of inquiry in regard to the arrangements made between Lieut William Stone and myself concerning the Freedmen's School at this place. I suppose he has inform you of the course pursued by him and also of the difficulties I have to contend with here for my tuition as a Teacher for service. he has told you also of the arrangement to pay to me the sum of $18.00 per month from the 1st of March until the 30th of June with a rate on the part of each Scholar of 20 per cents to make my salary sufficient to make it a free school until the expiration of the time above mention also the sum of $40.00 would be appropriated to pay the House rent that I am teaching in at present. according to a letter that I received from him of the 8th inst. he is relieved from duty in Columbia and ordered to Louisville Ky. in that letter he says that I must apply to you for further information he said also that he would leave with you, the sum of forty dollars to pay the rent of the School room and $18.00 dollars to pay me for my service during the month
