hero-worshipper, but when I see a man keep straight onward on the path that duty opens, putting his strength on the side of the weak — using his power for the good of the powerless — above all doing his life's work with a firm, faithful Christian spirit — my soul bows in reverence — and I thank God that amid all the corruptions and evils of our country, there are still some in high places worthy to do His work, and who will receive the recompense which He only can give.

I would like to offer for thy acceptance the enclosed picture of my highly esteemed and dearly beloved friend Lucretia Mott. The model woman of America — The woman who for 50 years has worked steadily in the "narrow path" opened to her view by the Divine Hand — swerving neither to the right nor the left — unheeding the voice of praise or the clamor of disapprobation, keeping steadily onward through all opposition and under all circumstances, guided only by that Light which Our Father kindled in her soul
