Harrisburg, Texas, Feb. 26th 1870
E.C. Bartholomew,
Austin Texas.
I enclose my rept of school for Feb'y.
A white man who taught here last year began a school in the Baptist church -- the first of the month boasting that he was "going to break up the school in the Methodist Ch." which has decreased the numbers in our S.S considerably. but through the efforts of some of the col'd people, nearly as many new scholars have come in to take the places of those who left the day school
The scholars have done exceedingly well in their studies this month. The sectarian spirit here is quite strong.
Very Respectfully,
Martha E. Green.
