Galveston Texas October the 6th. 1870 Mr. EC Bartholomew Dear Sir. I have opened school again here in Galveston and can't get enough scholars to pay me for teaching, and besides they want rent for the church and it is impossible for me to pay rent, and board when I only have six scholars and I don't see much prospect of getting any more, for I have tried the school so many times, And I never have had any more success here, I have received several letters from Waco, telling me if I returned there, I should have a good school-house and all my old scholars again I did not know what to do about going to Waco. I thought I would write to you first and ask your opinion about it, If you think the state will take charge of the schools shortly and pay the teachers I may just as well remain in Galveston, But if you think it will be some time yet before those free schools open I would prefer going to Waco to staying here any longer. Please write and let me know what you would advise on the subject, And oblige Yours Respectfully Julia. O'Connor.
