Columbus Texas April 7th 1869

To Mr. Walsh Superentendan of Freedmans school

Sir I am sorry to have to inform you that Henry French the teacher of the Freedman school here and an assistant of his by the name of Pamer that you sent to teach school in Richmond about 3 months ago as far as I can understand the both of them got as much money in advance from the freed children an pupils that they had and they left here this morning or last night and there is no account of them since

I am the only white person here that used to keep company with them so the both of came to me to get them a boarding house so I took them in with me self to board we boarded with poor widow lady here and went of without paying her of I will have to pay it for them besides a pair of shoes that I got for Pamer they left me to pay in all about (24) twenty four Dollers specie which I am a poor laubering man and have a family here to attend to it is two much for me to loose for a pair of lazy me that I have acted the friend to therefore. Professor Walsh you would oblige and assist me in a charitable by having it stoped from there pay if the government owes them any thing  I am a man that has served three years in U. S. Navy this late war and I have a poor way of getting of late in this world no matter an must be all satisfied with the will of God
