No disposition is manifested by the white people to assist the freed people in establishing schools, on the contrary their influence is used against the erection of School Houses and in fact against any project in which the object is to benefit the f.m. or to advance them above the state of Peonage. 

Freedmen are now very busy in their fields picking cotton and cannot now attend to school matters, however, I shall make an other effort to erect a school building here this fall.
