Jefferson May 25th 1869

Revd Jos Welch

My D. Sir:

I have sent a freedman - Revd Coleman Clark to Sulphur Springs to open a school A teacher is much needed at Myrtle Spring - In fact every county seat where there is not a school ought to have a teacher at once. There is a school at Sherman; - three now in Jefferson - I did not intend to report them all, this month as my intention was to consolidate all the schools into one, on the first of June. The Sheriff's wife takes Younger's school. He is going to send for his brother to take charge. Please give Younger all the encouragement you can as he is a very superior teacher - the most competent by all means that I have seen in a freedmens school.
