Chester H. Johnson, Esq.,
410 South Michigan Ave.,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Johnson,

I have just received your letter and we are very interested to read what you tell us about the VESTIER.

At your request, we are having the little tablet made bearing the name of the Countess Sophia Stroganoff, but we would like to point out to you that we are doing this only at your suggestion, as although the attribution that Princess Cantacuzene gives to this picture may be perfectly correct, we, ourselves, are selling this picture as "A Portrait of an Unknown Lady" by VESTIER, until we can confirm from the party of whom we bought it whether there is any possibility of this attribution being a proper one.

I trust you will quite understand our view in this matter, because it has always been the policy of the firm to absolutely verify to our own satisfaction any such attributions before we give a name to any picture.
Hoping to hear, however, that you have had some luck with it, and with our kindest regards, believe me to be

Yours very truly,

P.S.-- I am expecting the little wooden tablet tomorrow, and immediately it arrives, I shall send it on to you. CT.
