My dear Trevor:
Your good wishes were very much appreciated, and am glad to tell you that the party was a successful one- quite a crush, and great enthusiasm over the pictures, and some good business started.

I am enclosing herewith a check for $800, part payment on the Chinnerys and, as I explained to you, the balance will be paid the first of the year. However, I hope to pay you before we are paid for them. The Vestier is under reserve by a serious client and would have been sold immediately if the husband had liked it as much as his wife, who wishes it and intends to pursue the battle of acquiring it. Will advise you as soon as I have their decision, but this won't be for ten days at least, as they are out of town at present.

Am working with the Art Institute on the large Benjamin West, and now plan to be in New York early in November, and will see you then. Have you any attractive English portraits, size 25 X 30, or 40 X 50? If so, please send me some photographs with color descriptions and prices, which I may show to another important client. Will be greatly obliged if you can help me, and with kindest greetings to you all,

Yours sincerely,
Chester H. Johnson
