My dear Mrs. Kanzler:

The Museum of Modern Art has entrusted us with the sale of an extremely fine oil painting by Degas representing "Race Horses".

This picture which comes from the celebrated Bliss Collection is one of the artist's very rare subjects. The size of the picture is 18-1/4 inches by 21-5/8 inches and belongs to Degas' finest period as it is dated 1884. It has been mentioned by Lafond and Du Bois; is reproduced in Meier-Graefe edition of 1923 Plate LXXVII, in Vollard's book on Degas, 1924, Page 48 and the Museum of Modern Art's catalogue of 1934, "Lillie P. Bliss Collection", Plate 25. The picture was exhibited in seven exhibitions including the Armory Show of 1913 in New York.
I recommend this picture quite especially to you as we have been requested by the Museum of Modern Art to sell it on a commission basis, and the value they have put on it is extremely reasonable.
