Dear Francis:

As you know, your letter of February 8th was received while both Germain and myself were away. However, we have both returned; Germain from a trip abroad, and myself from a trip in the middle west.

The picture which you purchased from us is not recorded, and we gave you all the information we had on it, on the invoice. However, the fact that it is recorded or not has no bearing on the authenticity of the picture. I am now working on an exhibition of portraits by Raeburn which is going to be held shortly at our galleries, and some of the finest pictures in the exhibition are not recorded either.

Kindly believe me

Very sincerely yours,

(René Seligmann)
