MAYFAIR 5767

142 NEW BOND STREET
W.I.

November 17th, 1952.

Monsieur Germain Seligman,
Messrs. Jacques Seligmann & Co., Inc.,
5 East 57th Street,
NEW YORK 22,
U.S.A.

Dear Mr. Seligman,

Thank you very much for your kind letter of November 12th regarding DAUMIER drawings.

I am of course very interested to hear that you own an important Daumier water-colour, and I would ask you to be kind enough to let me have a photograph and the documentation as soon as you feel in a position to do so. I would of course never have mentioned or published your drawing without your permission, and it will in any case be a few more years before I can regard the Oeuvre Catalogue as roughly complete. However, as you say that you will on principle not have any photographs out as long as the object in question is still in you possession, I do not want to press the point.

Thank you so much for trying to obtain details and photographs of Daumier drawings in the possession of a client of yours, and I of course very much regret his attitude; I think I have almost 100 photographs of Daumier drawings the owners of which I am still searching for. I am also obliged to you for pointing out the Duncan Phillips Collection to me; I am already in touch with Mr. Phillips and with practically all the other American Museums.

With repeated thanks,

Yours sincerely,
