Handsome volume issued at the time of the last big pre-war exposition internationale.

80. Querard (J. M.) La France Littéraire ou diction-  £28 naire bibliographique des savants, historiens & gens de lettres da la France...Firmin Didot, 1827-1839.  THIS IS THE ORIGINAL ISSUE.  Ten volumes, 8vo, ordi. brown cloth, half the spines are defective, a few pages foxed, but a sound copy of this indispensable work.
81. "Un Autre Monde: transformations...fantas-  £4 maories...zoomorphoses, etc." Par Grandville. H. Fournier, 1844. Large 8vo, ealry 19th cent. red morocco gilt, front hinge cracked rubbed, waterstaines on a few margins only, otherwise a good copy of this scarce & quite delightful book full of unusual illustrations (36 in colour). 
82. Variétés Historiques & littéraires, recueil de   £10 pièces volantes rares & curieuses en prose & en vers, revues, & annotées par E. Fournier. Jannet ( & Pagnerre for vols. 9 & 10), 1855-1863.  ("Bibliothèquw Elzévirienne"), 10 vols. Small 8vo, cloth gilt, uncut. Fine fresh set, each volume contains about 370 pages of 16th & 17th century French pieces of the greatest rarity. (The index occupies more than 75 pages.)
83. Les Veber's. Paris, Testard, 1895. Large 8vo,  £6 1/2 brown crushed morocco & marbled boards, orig. wrappers bound-in. Hundreds of witty black illustrations. A splendid of the work 'nineties.
84. Voyage Autour de sa Chambre par Octave  £21 Uzanne, illus. de H. Carruchet, gr. à l'eau forte par F. Massé. Imprimé à Paris pour les BIBLIOPHILES INDEPENDANTS, 1896.  Tall 8vo, 3/4 polished calf, spine inlaid with a plant, t.e.g., uncut, orig. wrappers bound-in. One of 210 copies, this one printed for Mr. Lachenal (loosely inserted is the bookseller's orig. invoice (Floury) & a copy of O. Uzanne's 1898 New Year's card, handcoloured.) The text of the book is in imitation of calligraphy: each page is surrounded with a wide hand-coloured border. At the end are the uncolored designs (each with "remarque") of the colouor-illustrations. Binding, though not signed, is by Meunier. A splendid specimen of lat 19th century book-production.

Hetzel, 1843. *8vo, contemporary dark blue morocco, spine & both covers entirely gilt, with foliage, grotesques, a woman leaning over the back of a man's char, dragons etc. Edges gilt, leaves loosening but clean. Carteret 596. Sixty-three full-page illustrations. Large rubber-stamp on blank part of title-page.
86. Yriarte (C.) Paris grotesque, les célébrités de la   £4 rue, Paris (1815-1863). Dupray de la Maherie, 1864. 8vo, 1/2 green morocco, gilt spine, hinges cracking, corners worn, contents good, a few fixings. Original wrappers bound-in. The scarce first education. Fine impressions of the full-page illustrations.

87. Currier & Ives lithographs in colour circa 1870: all measurements are exclusive of the wide margins (except part 13, see below): (1) Robert Burns & his Highland Mary (125 Nassau Street N.Y.), they are seated under a tree. 11 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches, 295 x 212 mm. £6
(2) The First Care, the young mother.  (152 Nassau St.) Numbered 409.She watches her baby asleep:  in foreground a bitch & puppy.  Oval, 10 5/8 x 8 1/2 inches, 270 x 217mm. £4
(3 & 4)Getting In, and, Getting Out (numbered 706 & 707). 152 Nassau Street. The angry mistress catches the young soldier whom the servant has hidden in a cupboard of the kitchen (a tear has been skilfully repaired in one plate). 11 5/8 x 8 3/4 inches, 293 x 220 mm. The pair for £7
(5 & 6) Spring (1870), &, Summer (1871).  Each is a large head & shoulders of young girl, with seasonable flowers in hair & symbol hands.  Complete sheet is 17 x 13 inches, 430 x 329 mm. 152 Nassau Street Pair for £6
(7 & 8)  The Prodigal Son:  receiving his patrimony: &: wasting his substance, Numbered 216 & 217.  (152 Nassau Street).  11 1/2 x 8 3/8 inches, 293 x 212 mm. (3/4 inch margins all round this pair). Pair for £5
(9 & 10) Telasco & Amarilli (burning of the palace of the Incas, conquest of Mexico).  And:  Ataliba receiveing 
(sic) the last embraces of his family.  152 Nassau Street. 12 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches, 318 x 233 mm.  Pair for £6
(11 & 12)  The Cork River, and, The Cove of Cork.  (152 Nassau Street).  7 7/8 x 12 1/2 inches, 200  x 317 mm.  (These are extensive with shipping, building & figures). Slight strain in edge of sky of one & very small repair to sea in other.  Pair for £10
(13)  "Tomb & Shade of Napoleon: find the figure of Napoleon among the trees."  (152 Nassau Street).  10 3/4 x 8 inches, 273 x 203 mm., but no margins on sides & top. £1
(14,15 and 16) Little Blossom: Little May Queen: Little Sunbeam. Each shows a very small girl among flowers. (125 Nassau Street). Each is backed with card (May Queen slightly marked). 11 1/8 x 8 1/8 inches, 284 x 207 mm. The three for 8 pounds.
(17) "Magnificent Steamship Germanic, of the White Star Line, length 468 ft., breadth 45 ft., tonnage 5004. Horse Power 4500." (115 Nassau St.). 7 1/4 x 14 1/4 inches, 185 x 360 mm. Laid down on card. A tear (without loss of paper) affects the sky far from the ship, some tears have been skilfully repaired also in the very wide margins. 12 pounds

89. 104th Psalm illustrated by Susan Maria £2 10s ffarington, Worden. Vincent, Brooks Day & Son, (after 1868). Oblong 8vo, orig. brown cloth: printed in colour, a continuous folded strip, twelve feet long, 4 inches high. The verses of the psalm are printed in appropriate places under the illustration.

About 1160 pages & many hundreds of reproductions. Invaluable for collectors of drawings, painting & engravings. Scenes & subjects from Bible, classical mythology, European safas, allegories, "genre," are listed, with references: the location of works of art connected with that particular theme, follow the description.
91. Nudes. (120 superb full-page reproductions £ 5 10s of nude figures of Old Master drawings). "Aktzeichungen grosser Meister: Geleitwort von K. Edschmid." Folio, new copy (no discount). Munich, 1963. Captions in five languages. 90% of the drawings were made well before the end of the 18th century.

94. Der Nackte Mensch in der Kunst aller Zeiten, £5 by W. Hausenstein. Munich, Piper, 1913. 4to, orig. cloth gilt. Nearly 700 pages of text, more than 700 reproductions. A very thorough work. Cover shaken, split in cloth of one hinge (the book is very heavy). 
95. Old Master Drawings, reproductions. "Hand- £25 zeichnungen alter Meister der holländischer Schule," 3e. Auflage. Leipzig, Schumann (1921). Six portfolios, canvas sides, leather spines & corners, a perfect & complete set, containing three hundred & eighty-four reproductions each lightly tipped on to thicker paper. Please note that the leaves have been attached to a strong bband of linen so that each of the six portfolios contains (for foreign customs purposes) "a book" (& not separate leaves). This third edition is the best. The leaves can of course easily be detached, if it is required to show them separately for educational purposes.
96. Old Master Drawings. Another edition (1913) £17 of the above, loose leaves in 6 portfolios (the spines much worn but sound, the sides & contents fine. Contains three hundred & forty-seven plates (i.e., lacks 37 plates).
97. "Master Drawings" edited & selected by J. £4 4s E. Schuler, text by Dr. R. Hänsler, trans. from German by G. Brydone (1963). Folio, new copy. (No discount). One hundred &twelve reproductions of drawings from 6 centuries (majority from middle period). One of the best anthologies.
98. Modern Prints & Drawings, a guide to a better £2 understanding of modern draughtsmanship, selected & with explanatory text by Paul J. Sachs. New York,Knopf, (1954). 210 full-page reproductions + illus, showing methods of engraving, how lithographs are made etc. Also short biographies & most useful text.
