198. C.Blount; red chalk portrait, 1/2 - length in a drawn oval, thus signed. Circa 1680. 17 × 11 1/2 inches, 430 × 296 mm. Young man with elaborately curled hair, the ribbon of an order across his breastplate. £25

199. Canterbury, The Butter Market, with old houses & shops, a highly-finished very small pencil drawing, signed A.C.M.L., circa 1825. Name of Lewis appears above a shop-front. 3 1/2 × 2 1/4 inches.  £3

209. (Dolls) Two pen & Indian ink drawings by G.F Sargent, c. 1850, 4 little girls, each holding a doll, listen to a story near the fire: &, a child playing with dolls, while his mother knits by the cradle. Each is 7 1/4 × 5 1/2 inches, 185 × 137 mm. each £6

210. Downman (John, 1750-1824) Pencil & pale colour-wash oval 10 × 13 1/2 inches, 252 × 345 mm. The Hon. Peter Robert Burrell as a child of about 3, an open music-book in the foreground, his head rests on a cushion on a sort of hurdy-gurdy; though dated 1784 this is probably a study made later by the artist for reference. Compare plate 8 (top) of G. C. Williamson's "John Downman" 1907 for this child's portrait. £20

211. Etty (William, R.A., 1787-1849) Red, black & white chalk on pale-buff paper, nude study of a young girl, standing, facing, her left hand holds back her dark hair, 22 1/2 × 14 inches, 570 × 350 mm. £24

212. Fish. A group of nine exceptionally fine watercolours heightened with gum, by Sarah Bowdich (c. 1792-1865), several are signed & inscribed. Between 3 1/2 & 12 inches long, average 7 inches. Rare variety of trout found in hill-stream in Montes (?Paulyhantii): azurine or blue roach: bull-head: gwyniad or schelly (coregonus pennantii) of Bala Lake in N. Wales: etc. All are very bright & decorative. £80

213. Gill (Edmund, 1820-1894) Watercolour, signed, dated 1867, inscribed by the artist, "Slwd Ddwlu lower fall, River Nedd, S. Wales". 9 3/4 × 14 1/4 inches, 248 × 363 mm. £12

214. "Mr. Gladstone" a caricature signed by "Nap", 10 1/2 × 12 inches, 266 × 303 mm. Excellent head-caricature on the body of a horse, inscribed "G.O.M., aged, By Home Rule—Majuba 1881." £9

215. Hardy (James, junior, 1832-1889) Watercolour, signed, two farm-boys intently playing cards in a stone-floored barn, with pleasant rustic background such as milk-pail, wicker-basket, wooden barrel, rabbit-hutch. 18 1/2 × 14 3/8 inches, 470 × 365 mm. £40
