Dear Mrs. May:

I wish to write you at this time about a certain matter relative to the loan of your Juan Gris which has been somewhat upsetting as far as we are concerned.

It seems that the Arts Club of Chicago to whom we are sending the Juan Gris Exhibition, have communicated with the respective lenders regarding the extended loan of their pictures at Chicago, stating that we assured them of these extended loans.

I wish to point out that, although we are sending out our own paintings and those which came from Europe, we informed the Arts Club that they would have to communicate directly with the owners asking permission for the above, but under no consideration did we stipulate that we assured them of your picture, nor would we presume to do so.

I am merely writing you at this time so that you will have a record of this, and wish to assure you that the decision to lend your painting in Chicago rests entirely with you.

May I close by repeating how appreciative we are to have your painting in the exhibition here.

Believe me to be

Yours very sincerely,

(Robert M. Levy)
