4246 An oval painting of the English 18th century school by G.H Harlow, "Portrait of Miss C. Pearce" who became the wife of A.L. Massingbird, Esq., of Gundee, Lincolnshire.

The young girl is shown in a bust portrait in a three-
quarter pose, turned three-quarters to the right, gazing upward. Her dress is cut in a square decolleté and edged with white tulle. Her brown hair is caught up in curls.

George Henry Harlow was born in London in 1787 and was a pupil of Sir Thomas Lawrence. His works were exhibited at the Royal Academy and he died in London in 1819 at the early age of 32.
