Wharton Texas Dec. 6 1866

Mr. Wheelock Dear Sir I recieved your orders to report my School. I have not bin teaching since I saw you in Houston you pronounced me incompetent to teach I school there and I now feel my incompetency to teache here where I cannot make a support. I am now trying to make my support by manual labor. I could have gone elsewhere and taught, but I though you would not allow me that privilege as you did not in my firs attempt. I think I soon will be able to go back were I have taught public schools and there teach again.
