Stoughton February 21st 1843

Dear Doris

This days seems the most like spring of any thing we have had yet. the thermometer was up to 50° early this morning. I washed out my clothes & hung them on the back line in the sunshine. we only have one stove going these days. Mrs Barry made them understand down to the oil station that my being so old, I had simply got to have the oil heat when it was needed & so far all we have to do is to order it, when its needed. we use it once a day early in the morning, to warm up the house except in extreme weather.

Mrs Barry has been to church for the first time to day since her sickness & managed to sing in the choir, but came home very hoarse in voice. her cold was in the bronchial tubes & came near pneumonia. it was funny I did not take it, on account of Vix was the reason perhaps. I hope you are having this same mild weather & we get no more frigid stuf [[stuff]] this year. we have had a plenty & thats [[that's]] sure. a very hard winter.
