Dear Mr. Rox:

At the first possible moment after Mr. Seligman reached New York, I inquired whether the little SEURAT painting you saw here could be made available to you for your exhibition.

Most reluctantly he has had to decide in the negative, much as he would have liked to participate in your undertaking. One of the museum curators has shown an interest in it and Mr. Seligman feels it would not be ethical to lend the painting until the museum's Trustees will have deliberated on the subject of acquiring it.

I know you will understand our position, and Mr. Seligman hopes there will be another manifestation at Mount Holyoke soon, so that we may then have the pleasure of cooperating with you.

Yours very sincerely,

Mr. Rox,
