Mr Wheelock

Dear Sir
I commenced a night school on the 12th ult. with about 20 scholars and my report will tell the rest. At the same time I went out into the "highways and hedges" and gathered in some half dozen children too young to work but the number was so small that I could not feel any interest, therefore have not kept up a day school. The night school is very interesting and as successful as I can expect with the little time I have to devote to them of an evening. With one exception. they began in the alphabet and they now read and spell as I report in three and four letters sickness and night work has somewhat reduced the average attendance. If there were time to do each justice there would be no trouble in increasing the number here reported. A good chance for a school and except as a lady values her reputation among the "wise ones of earth," - which may or may not be questioned in my case - I am quite satisfied. Shall be more than glad
