Mr. Wheelock

I received the reports you sent and I think that through the assistance of Captain Sloan our school will increase. He has been speaking to the Freedmen and gaining their every encouragement in his power to attend school and they seem to have taken a great desire to attend and I expect in the course of a short time we will have a great many scholars. I am in great need of Sunday School books and if you can possibly make it convenient to send me a few I would feel under a great obligation for I have a great anxiety to teach Sunday School and I find it rather disagreeable to teach without books. I have distributed the books I received at my arrival, I will give the money for the slates, etc. to Capt Sloan to send to you.

Very Respectfully,
Mary Trivinia Smith
