1. Amount of Tuition paid during the month $45.00
2. Remarks. The house that I am teaching in is the Baptist Church, and is not as convenient for my school as The Government School House but the preacher, Jim Burly. At the Govt. School house has got a colored man teaching thier. He can barely write his name, he has got eight Scholars. I would like you to write an order, giving me permission to teach in The Govt. House. I have got an Assistant Teacher with Mr. and fine School. Mr Burly says the house is his and no one has any thing to do with it. I gave an exbition of the fifth & sixth of this month & it was generally acknowledged that it was the finest turn out that was ever in Harrisburg. The whites said the freedmen surpassed the white school.
