1. Amount of Tuition paid during the month, Eight dollars & 85 cents

2. Remarks: I take the liberty to inform you that from some cause which I cannot explain There are little or no improvements being made this Summer [[strikethrough]] in [[/strikethrough]] in Waco, Consequently the colored laborers of this City are in very straitened circumstances yet in the face of those realities they held a Celebration of their Freedom with a barbecue festival & demonstration of their Political sentiment

The Barronville School Contributed to the entertainment of the Assembly in the afternoon and discharged [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] their duty with credit to themselves I presume the expences of Anniversary festival is the principal cause so few has paid this Month now ended

However my labor is somewhat of A labor of Love having collected little more than paid current expences and have involved myself in the Bookstore for the eficiency of the School

The School is in arrears each month since Jany last some promises to pay this fall if now paid It will be a deposit made in the Bank of Heaven and the claim will be duly paid principal & interest

A number of the advanced Scholars are hired out since the festival on the 16th Inst to earn funds for Clothing &c and until they resume their sudies, will avail themselves of every opportunity to receive private lessons
