Stoughton Sept 17th, 1944

Dear Doris,

We are having very sunny warm days ever since our hurrycane, which did no damage here except blowing off the limbs of trees & my flower pots under the spice bush. but no damage to my tomato plants, I was happy to find. I get two or three ripe ones every day & they got a good drenching all night which did them much good, it was just what they needed. none of the flowers in the pots were injured none broken but the drain pipe at the southeast corner was blown over on the white rose bush & that old wild cherry tree beside the cesspool was blown onto the wall but it landed on my side so it will do no harm to lie there. I went to bed dreading the coming of the darned thing as our papers were full of its coming & as luck would have it went right to sleep. she came up into my room several times, as I think she was afraid, for she tramped the house most all night, shutting doors that would blow
