From the fact that the strata of volc. ashes, gravel etc. forming the entire walls of this sink appear to slope away from a point over the center of the small crater in middle I judge this sink to be the site of some old crater which sank here & became extinct after reforming the small crater now in its place.

The water in this lake is fresh. 

From this point I turned back & road about 6 miles to the Hda. de Jalapasco.

This is a large estate owned by Octaviano Couttolenc.  Within its borders lies the entire peak of Orizaba above timberline & all the N. & W. slope of the base.
