Dear Mr. Paley:

I received this morning your check of $4,000 (four thousand dollars) on the Bank of Manhattan Company to the order of my firm, in full payment of the purchases you made from Seligmann & Cie., Paris, and do wish to thank you for it in my brother's name. I shall post him accordingly.

I have also received a request from the U.S. Customs Service asking you to sign the herein enclosed declaration on Free Entry of Work of Art, etc. I would have been very pleased to sign this document myself in your behalf but as this is not possible I am forwarding it herewith and would be obliged to you for returning it with your signature.

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Seligman)
