My dear Mr. Trevor:-

Your courteous letter of the 9th is at hand. My delay in replying to it has been occasioned by a mass of accumulated correspondence.

My walls are already so completely filled that it not possible for me to consider any purchases of paintings. I am sure that the portrait must be a very interesting one indeed. I am glad it has been returned to the U.S. and I hope to stay.
