SPENCER PENROSE
COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO

April 2, 1940

Jacques Seligmann & Co.,
3 East 51st Street,
New York City.

Attn: Mr. Rene Seligmann

Gentlemen:

In accordance with correspondence we have had with you recently, Mrs. Spencer Penrose is shipping to you by express today the small antique secretary which you are to repair, and when this is received by you kindly advise the writer so that we will know of its safe arrival.

Also, in accordance with your instructions we have insured this piece of furniture, through Johnson & Higgins, 40 Wall Street, New York City, with what they call an All Risk coverage, including breakage, under a Fine Arts Floater policy, for a period not exceeding two months, and I suppose this will be ample time for you to make the repairs. Mrs. Penrose is going to Honolulu for two or three months and she mentioned that it might be best for you to keep the secretary in New York until she returned to Colorado Springs, but in view of the fact that the insurance will only be for two months perhaps it will be best for you to send it back here when you have finished with it, although, if necessary, you can get in touch with Mr. Harold S. Weber, of Johnson & Higgins, in case the insurance should be for a longer period.

When the secretary is returned to Mrs. Penrose in Colorado Springs kindly advise us so that we can be on the lookout for it and have it stored in a safe place.

Very truly yours,

M. W. Bogart

P. S. I have just talked to our local cabinet man and he believes it would be much better to have the secretary repaired immediately and returned to Colorado Springs, rather than keep it in New York, as by so doing the wood would absorb moisture in your damp climate and when it got back to Colorado Springs, which is extremely dry, the secretary would dry out again and perhaps be worse than it is at the present time. However, when you receive the secretary you can look it over and decide what should be done.
