Stoughton January 21 1946

Dear Doris

Another cold spell 3 degrees above zero this morning but the day is sunny. very icy going. everyone is on the alert these days. she has gone to church but I had her put ashes on the front walk early so not to slip when she went. I shall be glad when this winter ends.

We couldn't get meat this week but we managed to get mackerel, which we are going to have for our Sunday dinner. also 1/4 of a pound of butter. no oriole [[?]]. plenty of sacaorint [[?]] so we dont worry. with break + jam + peanut butter we can manage.

I am sitting up stairs in the front room with the sun streaming into the window + it feels very comfortable. I find the sun does a lot in allaying the cold weather + its getting higher every day. This is a cold disagreeable winter, with a great many snow storms more than usual.

We use your dinanio [[?]]on our cereals + sometimes puddings, if they are not sweet enough + it helps out a lot. we havn't gone hungry so far. our coffee cafe we get frequently. she makes lots of things with molasses. also to help out such as drop cakes + cookies + they are also good.
