915 THE ROYAL BANK BUILDING
MONTREAL

February 13th, 1939.

RL.

Dear Bob,

Thank you for your letter.

The van der Goes has been hanging for quite some time on the wall of my living room in Montreal. The Dirk Bouts is still in New York and, unless I receive a very interesting offer within the next few weeks, I shall bring it to Montreal too and forget about a sale.

I am sorry for you that at least the first part of the rumor is true, but you will remember that we could not make an arrangement because your firm wanted a very complicated one, whereas with Schaeffer, I simply left the drawings without any difficulties with regard to insurance and other problems. However, if you have any concrete proposal to make in the very near future concerning the Dirk Bouts, you might let me know direct - you should not discuss it with Schaeffer - and if at that time I have not made any other decision - particularly that of not disposing of the drawing - I have no objection to an arrangement with you, but I do not want the drawing offered around.

With kindest greetings to Helen and yourself,

Sincerely yours,

Ludwig Rosenthal
