*Tailored Localizer Course Width

Change 10 to the USSFIM specifies that localizer courses shall be adjusted to an optimum sector width of 700 feet at the approach threshold but not to exceed angular limits of 3 degree minimum and 6 degree maximum.

Required adjustments to course sector widths in compliance with Change 10 should be accomplished on the next routine flight inspection.

Inner Markers (contract FA67WA-1592, Kinn)

Deliveries are continuing on the inner markers.

*Capture Effect Glide Slope Transmitters (FA65WA-1164, Munston)

Deliveries have been completed on all clearance glide slope transmitters scheduled for delivery on the current contract.

Critical Areas

In the absence of national standards on the marking and appropriate procedures of localizer, glide slope and touchdown zone obstruction clearance areas, the Air Traffic Service has issued a memorandum, dated April 5, 1967. "Category II ILS Procedures," which provides interim guidelines.

Category II Approach Lights

On September 7, 1967, RD-300 forwarded to all regions  memorandum outlining "Category II ALS Requirements for for Lamp Wattage and Use of Frangible and Semi-Flush Light Fixtures." This information was provided as advance data for guidance. An agency order on Category II installation criteria is being prepared which will include this data.

Decision Height

A Flight Inspection Convair (N-101) has been instrumented with a radio altimeter to provide flight check capability to inspect in-flight readout of the decision height. Contact National Flight Inspection Division, FS-600, for aircraft scheduling.
