City, Des Moines, Miami, and Seattle. Airport systems studies have been carried out at the State level by Arkansas and Wisconsin under planning grants from the Department.

Airport access studies are underway in Baltimore, Atlanta, Kansas City, and Los Angeles. The Los Angeles project involves experimentation with the "sky lounge" or helicopter transported passenger pod. The Cleveland Transit System, under a grant from HUD, is presently completing construction on a rapid transit line that will provide service directly to the Hopkins International Airport terminal. There are several pending applications for similar projects not listed
above.

We feel that your master planning studies are particularly important in view of the rapidly escalating difficulties involved in developing a compatible system of airports and surrounding land uses. It is essential that areas not yet faced with high density air traffic initiate adequate planning programs in order to avoid serious and almost irreparable problems in the future. If there is any way we can be of further assistance, please let us know.

Sincerely yours,
