In its earlier years, the helicopter was often regarded as a novelty by the uninitiated.. a glamorous hummingbird flying machine that captured man's imagination. But the Bell's brilliant performance during the Korean war when it proved its unusual ability for rescue, observation and all 'round versatility firmly established and its unequalled place in the air.

In the past decade, the Bell helicopter has proved itself indispensable to business and industry in hundreds of time and money saving ways. But perhaps its most vital use is for the municipal governments of America's cities and towns.

Today, ownership and operation of helicopters by police departments and other municipal agencies is becoming commonplace. Many of them have availed themselves of matching funds from the Federal Civil Defense Administration.. purchased helicopters at half cost. Thus, at a nominal price, they have provided their cities with public protection as basic as patrol cars, fire wagons or snow plows. They have added new dimensions to law enforcement, traffic regulation, crime prevention and rescue.. to fire fighting.. health and sanitation.
